Unconventional portraiture has been a frequent theme in my work. Most of my assemblages are figurative, as are my collages, woodblock prints, painting and digital artworks. While the theme is usually based on the human face and figure the media I use
varies from piece to piece and the techniques used are even less uniform. I love exploring new ways to paint, assemble, burn, attach,
solder, etch, glue and sculpt my primary media: wood and metal. I was raised in New Mexico by an artist mother and a nuclear physicist father. My artistic journey has always dealt with this tension and my path has been to go both ways. My years as a scientist focused on the aesthetic: from the patterns in nature to the rendering of the invisible to the animation of the atmosphere at a planetary scale. My artistic work contains technological influences - from information visualization to algorithmic collage and image generation. |
